Intel mulai buat TPM

Kemarin Wall Street Journal (WSJ) mengabarkan bahwa Intel akan mulai manufaktur Trusted Platform Module (TPM) chip. WSJ: “Intel, meanwhile, last week discussed plans to exploit the TPM along with new security modifications to its own chips in the second half of this year. The features will become part of vPro, a collection of technologies for corporate PCs .” OK, so this is *big* news.  Pertama kali Processor vendor ikut manufaktur TPM.

TPM chip ini adalah security chip yang nempel (soldered) pada motherboard.  Kekuatannya seperti SmartCard.  Jadi, tamper-resistant dan ada fungsi-fungsi cryptography.  Sejak 1999 Intel selalu membantah bahwa mereka akan memproduksi TPM sendiri.  TPM yang ada pada Intel motherboard saat ini berasal dari manufaktur lainya (spt. Broadcom, Infineon, etc).  Dulu Inmtel pernah di kritik karena mengunakan serial nomor pada setiap CPU, sehingga CPU mudah di tracking setelah dijual.  Untuk menghindari kritis ini, Intel membantah bikin TPM sendiri.
